Exciting Travel Opportunity to Guatemala

Join the IS/PL 358 course to Guatemala and experience the peoples and environment throughout this diverse and culturally-rich country. Professors Esquibel and Parsons will lead this short study away and service-learning experience taking place in May of 2014. For a detailed itinerary, click on “Itinerary” above.

May 16-24, 2014: Travel to Guatemala

Travel itinerary

May 16: Fly to Guatemala City and stay at SEMILLA
May 17: Travel to Santiago Atitlan/Panabaj – Meet with ANADESA Women’s Cooperative
May 18: Explore community around Lake Atitlan
May 19-21: Travel to Nebaj and engage in Community-based learning and work
May 22: Complete work in Nebaj, visit Chichicastenango market and travel back to Guatemala City
May 23: Relax in Antigua
May 24: Return to Kansas City

March 26, 6-840pm: Representations of Violence
April 23, 6-840pm: Beyond Violence in Guatemala

Cost and Registration Information

  • Total Lab Fee: $1500 (includes all expenses: airfare, lodging, transportation, meals, etc.)
  • $400 nonrefundable deposit due upon course registration
  • $1100 nonrefundable payment due by January 24, 2014
